Hey would love if the community came up with ideas for the next mapping contest. Tho i would caution to come up with ideas that are doable within 2 months of mapping.

Fully destructible mapping contest!
You must make a base that is as breakable as possible in which you have to defend.
...Oh great, now I have that hammer urge and I have school tomorrow. WHY!!!

Actually maybe the opposite, enemy has destructible base. You have to destroy the central focus of their base, be it a generator or some kind of energy whatnot.
You know what, maybe it can go both ways, like a bisexual. Attacking or defending.
I got my idea.
About the puzzle idea, do you mean like indiana jones stuff? Stepping stones trigger, arrows shoot out of wall. Rooms with closing walls. That stuff? That sounds cool to.

A funny map where you have to create traps and secrets. Like secretcity maps from sven coop.

lol beautiful comparison.
I'd like to see maps with no NPCs in them, or atleast NPCs are used Sparingly. All of the enemies are mapped. sorta like syn_compactor.

Yeah I like those kinds of maps with no enemy's. Just making your way through some nice, detailed settings and having to think for once instead of mindless shooting.
It's to bad I can't always stand these kinds of maps online with people who you don't know though. So many retards out there who don't know how to problem solve for their life and then just complain about how bad the map is.

well about my idea "survival puzzle". the name of the map im working on is called syn_tetricide. its actually pretty fun tho it has some lagging issues. take tetris, trying not to be crushed, and trying to build a "tower" to get to the "finish", ie a ledge higher up.
after the voting is done for the 1st competition we will pick the most popular idea. or most interesting.
that will be on the 9th of sept.

Some ideas:
Unique "toy":
Create a map utilizing a machine using the I/O system. Could be an enemy (func_tank, func_breakable), a weapon, a tool, etc
VIP:
Get a friendly NPC to a designated area.
Horror:
Create a scary map (hint: use soundscapes!)
Puzzle map
Story-driven map
A map focusing on AI and a specific battle sequence
Racing map?
A map utilizing (given entity)
A maze
A humorous map

Another idea; We all get a vtf with props and pieces in it and we can only construct a map from those pieces and cant add in any other objects. NPCS and I/O stuff is up to you but the building materials can't be changed.

i like the arctic idea tho the choices of textures is limited in that scenario.
I did have an idea that kind of goes along with 4-legs "toy" idea:
Brush Based Vehicles! everyone makes one. I put them into a big map and we let everyone play.

Ten Minute Story Map. A map that tells a short story in ten minutes or less. Might be hard to tell an interactive story in ten mintues while providing fun tasks for the players, and that's why I like it.

Moving on from Icely's idea - against the clock maps - a time limit forms an integral part of the map?

Either must complete map before 10 minutes passed or must survive 10 minutes.

If it can't be both I'll vote on time attack.

It would be interesting to make a level where no fighting is involved but yet it keeps your interest. Probably horror setting.

I like Arctic theme, no matter what.
It may be because I can finally make custom props, but I really think that's just a small percentage.
